Its original flat chequered wood grips are intact and secured by a screw bolt. 177 Air pistol is in very good condition, fully functioning with most of the original blue finish intact which is rubbed in areas consistent with age and use. The Pistols were only made in No 1 Bore/. Before cocking the pistol, a lever is swung out from the rear of the grip to afford mechanical advantage while cocking is performed.

An additional symbol in the form of a letter F with a pentagon was also added to all pistols except those designated for export to the USA. At the same time, the factory identification became ‘Webley & Scott Ltd Made in England’. After July 1981, however the pistol name was changed to ’Webley Tempest’ applied in a slightly different font. Other marking, in the form of ‘Webley & Scott Ltd Birmingham England’ on the underside of the fore end. Until 1981 the pistol had its name displayed as a single word, ‘Tempest’ at each side of the plastic for end. Production of the original Tempest started in 1979 and was the result of Webley returning to a more compact design following some adverse feedback from customers who found the Hurricane a bit too cumbersome to handle and shoot. It has ‘’Webley & Scott Ltd Birmingham & London on the left side of the cylinder together with ‘Webley Air Pistol Mark 1’. It has the correct Pre WW2 spring clip barrel catch and piston only accessible from the rear end of the cylinder and walnut grips and brass medallion appearing on the left side only. The pistol is stamped above the left hand grip with batch number "2453". This is a nice Pre WW2 Webley Mark I Air Pistol. The Webley mark 1 Air Pistol was produced between 19 with refinements being made to the model throughout the production period.
